Music journalist Jeff Weiss, who’s followed Drakeo The Ruler’s case closely, announced that the rapper will be released from prison tonight after accepting a plea deal for time served.
“Incredible news: The DA suddenly offered Drakeo a plea deal for time served. He took it,” Weiss tweeted on Wednesday. “The Ruler will be coming home tonight. @IamMRMOSELY is free.”
The journalist believed that Los Angeles residents voting out District Attorney Jackie Lacey played a key role in getting Drakeo released.
“It’s unquestionable that LA voting out Jackie Lacey last night played a major role in the DA’s decision,” Weiss added. “We have every reason to be cynical, but this was a case where collective action and organization actually paid real life dividends. The nightmare is over. #DrakeoIsFree.”
During last night’s election, Weiss expressed hope that Lacey’s loss would lead to Drakeo’s freedom. Weiss also praised the work of Drakeo’s attorney, John Hamasaki.
In September, Drakeo The Ruler spoke about remaining in jail despite being acquitted of numerous charges. Stay tuned for more updates.
