A party in Palmdale, CA, a suburb northeast of Los Angeles, led to the arrest of over 150 revelers in what the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is calling a “superspreader” event. The party was held at an abandoned home and was attended by minors.
“This is how brazen this operation was,” said Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva. “As you can see, this was a flagrant violation of the governor’s health order. But also please understand that even without the health order, these actions were criminal in nature.”
Villanueva said authorities were aware that the party was scheduled to occur ahead of time and revealed it was part of a larger network of underground parties thrown across the country. He also noted that a teenage girl was a “commercially sexually exploited child” who was successfully rescued from sex trafficking.
“Had we done the normal approach, break up the party before, the same victim would have been taken to the next location, so this actually rescued her from that,” he said. “She would have been passed down to the next party.”
