Mulatto has found her success reaching major heights this year, as she released her debut album ‘Queen of Da Souf’, which ended up going gold. Along with that, she was listed as part of the 2020 XXL Freshman. Since then, Mulatto has been making changes, with one of the changes surrounding her name.
Since her rise, the rapper has faced backlash for her name, which many feel is offensive and tone-deaf. Mulatto has been paying attention to the backlash and noted she might change her name in the future during an interview with HipHopDx.
While at the BET Hip Hop Awards, the rapper was asked about her name, and responded by saying, “I can’t say too much because we’re working on something right now, but I would be lying to say it hasn’t crossed my mind before. It is a controversy that I hear and see every day as far as my name goes, so I would be lying to say no I never thought of that. But I can’t say too much right now, because it’s going to be a part of something bigger.” A current nickname the rapper has been going by is Big Latto. Stay tuned for more details.
