Memphis Cop Charged with Kidnapping and Murdering Man While on Duty

According to reports, a Memphis police officer was recently arrested and charged with kidnapping and murdering a man while on duty. Patric Ferguson, 29, had been with the Memphis Police Department since 2018 before last weekend’s murder. The victim in the case was 30-year-old, Robert Howard.

In a statement shared on Facebook, Memphis Police Department Director Michael Rallings wrote: “No one is above the law. Knowing that a Memphis Police Officer, someone who took an oath to protect and serve, made the decision to commit this horrific crime is devastating.”

Investigators say Ferguson went to Howard’s home, forced the man into his squad car, and drove him to a different area of the city where he fatally shot the 30-year-old. He then elicited the help of an acquaintance, Joshua Rogers, 28, to help relocate/dispose of Howard’s body.

While it’s not immediately clear what the connection was between Ferguson and Howard, investigators say the two knew one another. In addition to being charged with kidnapping and murder, Ferguson also faces charges of abuse of a corpse and fabricating and tampering with evidence. Authorities say Rogers was charged with accessory after the fact, abuse of a corpse and fabricating and tampering with evidence.
