3 Dead in Austin Shooting Spree, Police on Hunt For Former Sheriff’s Detective

It was reported that a man went on a shooting spree in an Austin, Texas neighborhood that resulted in three people being killed, along with two people getting severely injured.

Reports noted that the shooting went down in Northwest Austin near the Great Hills Plaza shopping center and led to SWAT teams being placed in the area.

Austin PD took to Twitter to address the shooting, saying, “While a suspect is still at large it appears this is a domestic situation that is isolated and there is no risk to the general public.” Police Chief Joe Chacon spoke on the matter, noting that the suspect in the situation has been identified as 41-year-old Stephen Nicholas Broderick, who is a former Travis County Sheriff’s Office detective. Chacon said, “Obviously, this is a tragedy. We have people who have lost their lives here. We’ll do our best to get this person in custody.”

While the scene was stamped as an active shooter situation, the police downgraded the shooting to an active crime scene.
