Department of Justice to Launch Investigation into Minneapolis Police

According to reports, the US Department of Justice is set to launch an investigation into the Minneapolis police department for its pattern of discrimination.

Attorney General Merrick Garland announced the launch of the investigation on Wednesday which will focus on the pattern of excessive force and discriminatory behavior on behalf of the police. “Today, I am announcing that the Justice Department has opened a civil investigation to determine whether the Minneapolis Police Department engages in a pattern or practice of unconstitutional or unlawful policing,” Garland said on Wednesday.

Garland noted that the investigation is separate from the George Floyd investigation. “If the Justice Department concludes that there’s reasonable cause to believe there is a pattern or practice of unconstitutional or unlawful policing, we will issue a public report of our conclusions,” Garland continued.
