LaMelo Ball Named 2020-21 NBA Rookie of the Year

LaMelo Ball capped off an impressive rookie campaign with the 2020-21 Kia Rookie of

the Year Award, beating out Tyrese Haliburton of the Sacramento Kings and Anthony

Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Ball was taken with the No. 3 overall pick of the Charlotte Hornets and with the newly

secured award, he becomes the first player since the 2004-05 season to win the award as

part of the Hornets organization.

LaMelo started the season averaging  19.5 points on 42.6 percent three-point shooting,

6.2 assists, and 5.8 rebounds before suffering a wrist injury that sidelined him and

almost jeopardized his chances of winning the award. After managing to come back

from injury, Ball finished out the season averaging 15.7 points, 6.1 assists, and 5.9

rebounds per game.
