Sha’Carri Richardson Tests Positive for Marijuana, Could Miss Tokyo Olympics

According to multiple outlets, U.S. sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson reportedly tested positive for marijuana and could miss the 100-meter sprint event at the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.

CBS Sports pointed out that Richardson’s positive test would disqualify her U.S. Olympic Trials performance, and she could be suspended from competition by the World Anti-Doping Agency. The likely suspension would last 30 days, eliminating her from contention for the coveted gold medal in the 100-meter dash but would end just in time for her to compete in the 4×100-meter relay.

Per CBS Sports: “Jenna Prandini, who finished fourth in the 100 meters at the U.S. Olympic Trials, would replace Richardson in the 100 meters if she is disqualified and/or suspended.”

While Richardson hasn’t spoken directly about the failed drug test, she posted a cryptic tweet on Thursday, which read, “I am human.”
