2 Basketball Coaches Charged with Murder After Teen Dies at Practice

According to reports, two high school basketball coaches have been charged with murder after a teen girl collapsed at practice.

Larosa Maria Walker-Asekere and Dwight Broom Palmer are facing charges of second-degree murder, second-degree child cruelty, involuntary manslaughter, and reckless conduct.

The charges stem from the 2019 incident when  Imani Bell, 16, collapsed on the court due to extreme heat conditions. A medical examiner found she died of a heart attack brought on by temperatures that reached the high-90s.

“Defendants observed Imani experiencing early signs of heat illness during the outdoor practice but nevertheless directed Imani to continue performing the conditioning drills with her team and directed Imani to run up the stadium steps,” reads the wrongful-death lawsuit that Bell’s family filed against the coaches in February.
