21 Savage Turned Himself into Police Following Warrant Related to ICE Case

21 Savage surrendered to police Thursday after being accused of drug and weapons possession from his 2019 ICE case.

In 2019, the Atlanta rapper was taken into custody by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement due to a 2014 conviction for felony drug charges. After 21’s. attorney’s proved the conviction was vacated, ICE dropped an aggravated felony charge against him

21 Savage turned himself in Thursday after a magistrate court judge signed a warrant for his arrest on suspicion of felony drug possession and weapons possession. According to the rapper’s lawyers, he was unaware of the warrant, which was signed on September 7.

In the warrant, 21 Savage is accused of tossing a bottle containing a liquid and having a handgun in his car during his ICE arrest. He’s also accused of later testing positive for codeine.

21’s representative, Charles Kuck, claims ICE requested the arrest as the government agency has been trying to get the rapper deported on grounds that he’s overstayed his visa.

“The warrant appears to have been sought at the behest of ICE, as the warrant was issued in the eve of an Immigration Court hearing in [21 Savage’s] deportation proceeding, and is based upon events that transpired on the evening that ICE arrested [21 Savage] over 2 and one-half years ago,” Kuck said in a statement.

Kuck also accused ICE of pursuing “trumped-up” charges against his client in an attempt to prevent him from obtaining a green card and becoming a permanent resident in the U.S.

21 Savage was released on bond Thursday evening and has a hearing over his immigration status on November 1.

“We are grateful for the efforts of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office for quickly processing and releasing [21 Savage],” Kuck said. “He will continue to fight for his right to seek permanent residence in the United States through the immigration court. We look forward to the day when ICE will play fairly with all those who seek justice within our immigration system.”
