Alec Baldwin Fired Prop Gun That Killed Cinematographer on Film Set

 

According to reports, a cinematographer has died after being struck by a bullet

accidentally fired from actor Alec Baldwin’s prop gun on the film set of the

independent film Rust, which is being shot in New Mexico.

Authorities confirmed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins succumbed to her injuries

and that director Joel Souza was wounded in the incident.

“We received the devastating news this evening, that one of our members, Halyna

Hutchins, the Director of Photography on a production called Rust in New Mexico,

died from injuries sustained on the set,” the Cinematographers Guild’s National

President, John Lindley, and National Executive Director, Rebecca Rhine, said in a

joint statement.

The statement continued, “the details are unclear at this moment, but we are working

to learn more, and we support a full investigation into this tragic event. This is a

terrible loss, and we mourn the passing of a member of our Guild’s family.”

Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office said no charges have been brought against Baldwin.
